Add Books Manually

Adding your books manually to BookSeller Book Store POS.

Create a spreadsheet in Microsoft works or another spreadsheet program with the following fields that apply to your store (also refer to your import products screen for all available fields):

*Any grayed out fields such as avg cost, are calculated fields.

  1. Then go to: a site such as http://isbn.nu which offers a quick way to compare the prices of any in-print and many out-of-print books at 14 online bookstores. You can view the results with or without the shipping costs of a single book, and also find the fastest source for a book from ordering to delivery. Search on the title, author, or subject to find books of interest, and then simply click Compare Prices to rapidly find the prices for that book.
  2. Select the isbn button
  3. Scan in or type in the isbn number from your book
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the page with complete information

  6. Copy the appropriate information for each field for the book by field definition from the http://isbn.nu and paste into your spreadsheet fields. Alternatively enter the proper data manually from the book screen into the bookseller screen.
  7. If you want to add the picture of the book, right click on the picture file, save as a .bmp image using the same name as online, but with a .bmp extension.
  8. Copy the image into your spreadsheet picture file field. Put your book picture files in the BookSeller Pics folder.
  9. When finished adding to your spreadsheet, save your file as a text and tabs file called products.txt in My Documents.
  10. Open up BookSeller Book Store.
  11. Click on the File Tab.
  12. Then Import Products.
  13. When the import screen opens click on open.
  14. Find your products.txt file in My Documents and open it.
  15. The first record's information will be visible.
  16. Click on the pull down menu to the left to assign or map the visible information to the correct field.
  17. When all fields are assigned properly, click on import and load your database. *Note that it is much easier and faster to make any changes and enter any data in your spreadsheet when you add a large number of books, than it is to enter them in the program.
  18. When adding new or individual items just pull up the Product Edit New Item screen, and add the item from the book manually, from the book or from a site such as isnb.nu, bookfinder4u.com or the library of congress site.

Suggested sources of data for books:

http://www.gamon.org/Tools/IsbnLookup.html or http://www.bookfinder4u.com

*Note we do not support use of these suggested outside data sources or how to use your database or spreadsheet program. If you do not use these sources you will need to enter your items manually into Bookseller or a database file for import.
